Afghanistan Squad announced for ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018

ACB selection committee announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018 in a press conference held here at ACB Headquarters Kabul.

Addressing the Press, Asadullah Khan, member of the selection committee said: “The squad is selected based on the fitness of the players as well as considering the team balance and conditions.”

Training camps were organised in Kabul and Chennai over the last one month as part of their preparation for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in which 24 players took part. Players for the Emerging Team played practice matches against the National Team that is also currently training in Chennai, as well as local clubs from Chennai.

Afghanistan Squad:

Najib Zadran (C) , Ihsanullah Janat, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Nasir Jamal, Darwish Rasooli, Shahid Kamal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil(WK), Karim Janat, Zia ur Rahman Akbar, Fazal Haq, Wafadar Momand, Zahir Khan and Qais Ahmad

Reserve Players:

Bahir Shah, Zia ur Rahman Sharifi and Waqar SalamKheil

The participating teams in the tournament are divided into two groups. Afghanistan is joined by Sri Lanka, Oman and India in Group A of the tournament while Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and UAE constitute Group B.

The tournament is jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the former is set to host all the Group A matches and finals while the latter will host Group B matches.
